While the world is hoping, without much hope, for a fair and lasting ceasefire in Ukraine, the reality on the ground is quite different. Every day, the city of Kharkiv, 30 km from the border, is the target of relentless attacks by the Russian army, which strikes shamelessly at the civilian population.
The children of Kharkiv, also symbols of Ukraine's incredible resilience, are starting their fourth year of lessons in underground shelters or at home, as they are not 'lucky' enough to study in a school with an air-raid shelter. And every morning, lessons resume after a dull night's sleep, punctuated by the gloomy and distressing sound of sirens.
This situation, which is already extremely difficult, is becoming inhuman for the countless families living in sometimes absolute poverty, or for those with children with special needs.
On our own modest scale, and with the help of our partners in France (Action Numérique Solidaire - https://actionnumeriquesolidaire.org –which collects and refurbishes computers) and in Ukraine (Adults for Children - https://adultsforchildren.taplink.ws –which identifies the beneficiary families), we are continuing our PC distribution programme. This equipment enables children to continue taking their lessons from home and schools to set up computer rooms. Here are some images of our ongoing distribution.
Over and above the practical help that this represents, the fact that foreigners are staying by their side after three years of war is a precious source of comfort for the Ukrainians. This unwavering support helps them to continue to fight and to endure the unbearable, especially in an international context that is increasingly worrying for them.
It is essential that we continue our efforts and commitment together. To do this, we need your help to continue our actions on the ground.
