20 December was a devastating day for Ukraine. Kyiv suffered a violent bombardment of its city centre, in another traumatic day for its inhabitants. But Kyiv was not the only city to suffer brutal attacks. Kherson continues to endure daily nightmares, and this day was particularly trying. Civilians are being indiscriminately targeted by drones in inhumane attacks that locals have eerily dubbed "human safaris".
In the midst of all this chaos, our fantastic partner Union of Help to Kherson (https://www.facebook.com/UNIONKHERSON) carried out a new series of distributions this morning as part of the StayInTouch programme we have set up with them. The kits - high-capacity power banks, solar panels and rechargeable lamps - were delivered to people living in some of the riskiest areas near the Dnipro river. These districts, located just three kilometres from Russian artillery positions, are rarely visited by humanitarian organisations because of the extreme danger they represent.
The courage and dedication of Kate, Andriy and their team, in the face of unimaginable circumstances, is quite simply extraordinary.
A huge thank you also to Andy and Sara Kurtzig for their loyal support in enabling us to continue with this type of programme.
